Description
The Sherman tank was the main tank used by the United States during the Second World War. The tank was named after Union General William Tecumseh Sherman. Production exceeded 50,000 units. Only the Soviet T-34 tank was produced in greater numbers during the Second World War. Although it was totally inadequate against the more heavily armed 56-tonne German Tiger I and 72-tonne Tiger II, its mobility, mechanical reliability and sheer numbers helped offset their strategic disadvantages.
