The first modern Ferris wheel was designed and built by GeorgeWashington Ferris as a monument for the Colombian World's Fair in 1893. The term Ferris has been used generically for all these structures. As of 2012, the 541-foot-high Singapore Flyer is the world's tallest Ferris wheel.
