Known as Big Mo, this US Navy battleship is best known for being the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan, which ended World War II. The Big Mo was commissioned in June 1944. During World War II, it participated in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and then in the Korean War. The Big Mo was decommissioned in 1955 but was reactivated and modernized in 1984 as part of the Navy's 600 ship plan. In January 1991, it provided fire support during Operation Desert Storm.
